The Supreme Council Constitutions provide that the "Award for Meritorious Service" may be conferred upon Members of the Rite who by reason of meritorious services of a Masonic character are worthy of such recognition. All selections are made upon the recommendation of the Presiding Officers of the coordinate bodies to the Council of Deliberation. The Award is not limited to one Member a year from a Valley.

This Award was first made in the year 1941. It is not a degree, nor is it related to any degree in Scottish Rite Masonry. It is not considered a stepping stone to the 33º, and neither does it bar a Member from later being nominated for that honor.

Congratulations to Bros. Paul J. Mandelaro and James C. Rae, 32º, who were nominated and approved to recieve the Meritorious Service Award at the 2011 Annual Meeting of the Pennsylvania Council of Deliberation, July 9, 2011 at the Seven Springs Resort, Seven Springs, PA
